Welcoming you back inside!

A Personal Note to Our Families

Welcoming you all inside the clinic again brought me so much joy this past year. I have met some of you face-to-face for the first time! I am delighted to get to know you all better, and communicate more clearly and completely.

I believe that being a good vet for you and your animal companions involves so much more than just the exchange of objective medical information. We all express so much additional information with our eyes, tone of voice, facial expressions, and so on. Subtle cues can prompt me to ask additional questions which often lead to vital details. This also helps me know when clarification is needed, express my empathy, and show you that "I hear you."

The past 3 years have been challenging for everyone. I hope you also take some time for yourself to get away from your daily stresses, and remember to take care of yourself, relax, and enjoy simply being in the moment.

My Personal Thoughts Regarding COVID-19

(To protect our community and animal companions)

The CDC advises eligible people stay up-to-date with the latest more strain-specific vaccinations. The CDC also recommends additional precautions based on your personal risks, like age and underlying conditions.

I believe this is critical and in line with my personal philosophy regarding vaccinations for dogs and cats. Our animal companions are also susceptible to COVID-19, and the older ones are more likely to develop severe disease.

pets Did you know?

It has been shown that up to 80% of cats exposed (confirmed human case in household), have antibodies to COVID-19. This means they were exposed and the body reacted and mounted an immune response - making specialized defenses for future exposure. Some of these cats may have showed mild symptoms, and most showed none at all.

For this reason, as well as the possibility that the virus could circulate within another species, mutate, and then return to humans as an unknown variant - I strongly encourage all pet "owners" obtain vaccinations if their personal physicians have recommended this based on their personal circumstances.

We look forward to seeing you again in 2023!

Sincerely,

Dr. Lesh
